Went a few days ago along with 9 other people and only had to wait half an hour to be seated which is impressive for such a busy establishment. The place is so well curated from old photographs to art to books. The vintage items are actually authentic, I saw a poster from Sudan that was a perfume dupe for a classic perfume that is out of production now.
Now the food, incredibly creative twists on classics from around the Mediterranian. Our group ended up ordering multiples of small plates. I will be singing this places’ praise for a long time to come & heading here whenever I am in Cairo.

Almeria (or Almería) is a Mediterranean café and trattoria located within the historic Cinema Radio complex on Talaat Harb Street in Downtown Cairo (Wust El Balad). It has quickly gained a reputation for its nostalgic atmosphere and its focus on a “living archive” of Mediterranean culinary traditions.
Atmosphere & Design
The setting is one of Almeria’s strongest selling points. Tucked away from the chaotic energy of Downtown, the interior feels like stepping into a vintage Mediterranean home.
• Nostalgic Decor: The space features warm, textured interiors with homey carpets, delicate vintage cutlery, and an upper-level dining room that offers a quiet escape.
• Cultural Blend: The name itself refers to the Spanish city influenced by Arabic culture, and the decor mirrors this blend of European and Middle Eastern aesthetics.
• Vibe: It is sophisticated yet intimate, suitable for a trendy night out, a leisurely brunch, or a stylish lunch.
Culinary Concept
The menu is curated by Executive Chef Elissa Aboutasse and focuses on the four elemental threads of Mediterranean cuisine: wheat, olives, olive oil, and grapes. Every dish on the menu incorporates these ingredients.
• Regional Fusion: The flavors span from Aleppo and Armenia to Libya, Spain, Egypt, and Lebanon.
• Signature Dishes:
• **Eggplant Milanese: Thick, golden slices of fried eggplant served over black garlic labneh (widely cited as a highlight).
• **Ringa Caesar Salad: An Egyptian twist on the classic, using smoky ringa (herring) strips and crispy roumi cheese croquettes.
• Makanek with Lentils: Armenian-style sausages paired with a unique carrot and qamar el din (apricot) puree.
• Armenian Manti: Traditional meat dumplings, though noted for being quite small.
• Seafood Pastilla: A Moroccan-style puff pastry filled with sweet spiced seafood.
• Bakery: Their manouche, baked over firewood, is praised for its pillowy texture.
Service & Practical Details
• Portion Sizes: Multiple reviews indicate that portions—especially for “mains”—can be quite small (often described as “taster” sizes). It is highly recommended to order several small plates to share family-style.
• Pricing: Expect to spend between EGP 1,000 to EGP 2,000 per person. It is considered somewhat pricey for the area, reflecting its “chic” positioning rather than casual dining.
• Alcohol & Smoking: Generally, it does not serve alcohol, and the indoor dining area is typically smoke-free (though verify current policies upon arrival).
• Accessibility: The venue is noted as being accessibility-friendly.

I loved it! The place is BEAUTIFUL. The decor is really well done, it’s old-timey, romantic, and so cozy. I went with my family for Easter Sunday and the food was amazing. And I’m not being dramatic. The flavors were balanced with pinches of zest or sweetness. I recommend the ورق عنب Meze. It’s in a really beautiful spot in Egypt, and the vibes were immaculate. Since we were a lot we reserved our tables earlier. And the place was just super peaceful and comforting.

We found this place completely randomly on our last day after spending 2 weeks in Egypt. I have to say that this restaurant was really refreshing with a wonderful decor. The food was excellent and the staff amazing. We were served by Rima Sharkawy which have the best English we’ve heard in this country. She gave us good recommendations according to our taste and we did not regret our choices. The food was well presented and the taste amazing. We definitely recommend the veal cheek.

Food was very good the eggplants 🍆 were the star of the night it tasted like extra amazing and it felt like first time ever I ate something like this. the fish was not so good and super salty the potato har or whatever it’s called, was just a simple bite of potatoes with no taste the hallomi was super good and I recommended no pictures of it forgot to take a pic of it. Service was kinda weird like felt like they don’t wanna push sales at all they wanted us out ASAP the guys were nice tho but since Im in FB busniess they could’ve easily doubled the sales from us by selling. They need more training to be fair but they were nice. Anyways loved the place will come again.
