El Mamurah Beach

Your taxi has to pay a toll to enter this area, around 60EGP/person and then they charge you to enter the beach to use their chairs and umbrella which for 6 of us was around 1,200EGP. We were mugged! Not worth the money. Litter everywhere and people smoking – but this is common to Egypt.

If you do use, your car will stop on the road, get off and walk through the houses to get the beach. The houses block the beach view.

There are changing rooms, toilets and shower facilities. All very basic; dirty and smells, but does the job.

I would recommend, if you can, do an overnight stay at the Hilton next to the corniche/beach and you will have access to their own exclusive beach section. Also, spending 2 days will allow you to see other interesting parts such as the Citadel, Ampitheatre, Montaza palace gardens and the Sidi Bishr Mosque (not spectacular but the oldest mosque in Alexandria).
