El Mawardia

We chose this restaurant inside our hotel because we were a bit tired of eating out and wanted something comfortable and familiar. In the end, it turned out to be the perfect choice.

We were still able to enjoy local cuisine, and everything was delicious, making it a truly wonderful experience. It was definitely the right decision.
The orzo we had here was especially delicious and truly memorable.

The shisha was flavorful and very good value for money , and it seems they have live shows on certain days as well.

We arrived at the Sheraton after a very challenging journey to Cairo. We were exhausted, and missed our first day of tour activities due to travel delays. But we were determined to make the best of our first evening, and our spirits were lifted when we got this gem right in our hotel!

The staff at El Mawardia made us instantly feel welcome. Abdelrahman Elsayed was very attentive, and his menu suggestions and portion recommendations were spot on, including Egyptian wine!

Some complimentary hummus and moutabel was a very welcome addition to an already delicious array of dishes. This included hawawashi (mincemeat “pockets”), similar pocket appetizer filled with cheese, fatoosh salad, bamya (stewed okra with lamb), and the mixed grill of lamb kabobs, beef kofta, and quail. The fresh baked pita was excellent as well!

The meal was capped with a complimentary sample of deserts (see picture) – a very nice introduction local sweets.

All in all, the staff at El Mawardia not only provided us with a delicious first meal in Cairo, but more importantly salvaged our spirits with a very warm local welcome for our first time Egypt adventure!
