India Gate Alexandria

I’ve been in Egypt for a week and honestly got completely bored of eating non-spicy food everywhere. I was really craving proper Indian spicy flavors, so when I came to Alexandria and saw the advertisement for India Gate Restaurant, I got excited. I thought finally I’ll get real Indian taste and proper spicy food.

I ordered with high expectations, especially because I was really craving Hyderabadi-style spicy biryani. But honestly, I was very disappointed. The food had almost no spice, no real taste, and felt like just colored rice with nothing special in it. Calling it “Hyderabadi biryani” or Indian cuisine is misleading.

There was no authentic Indian flavor at all. It felt flat, basic, and far from what Indian food is supposed to taste like. Totally did not match expectations set by the name or advertisement.

Overall, very disappointing experience. If someone is looking for real spicy Indian food, this is not the place

I love this place! I’m a tourist from England and I wanted some Indian flavours. So I ordered the Indian starter mixed platter followed by the chicken curry and rainbow rice. They were all delicious and flavourful. Service was friendly and everything was cooked fresh! I then had the amazing coconut ice cream. Loved it! I definitely recommend tourists to try this place!

the service was really good and the waiters were very friendly.

the food was tasty and on point.
they also served us an ice cream as a visit courtesy which was an absolutely wonderful gesture and the ice cream tasted like heaven.

definitely won’t be my last time.
didn’t think about taking photos until we finished eating so don’t mind the empty plates 😂
