A WINDOW TO THE COSMOS BY THE MEDITERRANEAN

Our visit to the Planetarium Science Center came naturally after exploring the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the museum of antiquities, as these form a seamless cultural and intellectual complex. We visited around noon on a weekend in January 2026, also as a part of a big group and spent about half an hour here—just enough to appreciate its purpose and atmosphere.
Located right on the shores of the Mediterranean and in close proximity to the new Library Complex, the Planetarium Science Center enjoys a superb setting, with open plazas, sea breeze, and palm-lined walkways enhancing the experience even before stepping inside. The striking semi-circular dome, symbolic of the heavens, immediately signals that this is a space dedicated to science and discovery.
Inside, the focus is clearly on communication of science and technology rather than traditional exhibits. The digital planetarium is one of the main attractions, offering immersive presentations on astronomy, space, and Earth sciences. Even with limited time, it is evident that the centre is designed especially for students and young learners, with interactive displays and an engaging, hands-on approach. I would have appreciated if there were more people around to guide us around.
The centre also hosts lectures, workshops, and special events, making it a lively complement to the more contemplative library next door. Compact, modern, and purpose-driven, the Planetarium Science Center adds a contemporary scientific dimension to Alexandria’s historic role as a city of knowledge—well worth a short, focused visit after the library. Maybe I should have visited the entire complex (notably Bibliotheca Alexandrina) when I was a young student. Never mind. Better late than never.

The worst experience ever, not worth it.
There was no supervision or order inside the hall. The children were eating chips loudly and moving around chaotically.

A little pricy for what it is but imo a great experience that keeps you engaged the whole time. Think imax for ancient egyptian history but a with a wider field of view. If you don’t speak Arabic be sure to ask for the English audio headset or you won’t understand anything. All in all well worth the visit.
