We made crew change here in El Dekheila. As we all know the system here in Egypt is very bad. Port authorities (customs, immigration, agent, security, pilot etc) always wants something. This is a broken system and needs to be fixed.

Very efficient Port. Beware of a few cheating business men who sell internet data cards at $20 but much less data than promised.

This is a really bad place to go as seaman. Going ashore will require a notification given early to agent for shore pass followed by a long wait to received the said shore pass.
It sill require to give small “gifts” to officals in order to be able to go in the city in a reasonable ammount of time.
My shuttle bus was an old pick-up, full of port emplyees. So I had to ride outside …. not so bad … but there was about 150-200 kg of clay and 3 shovels in the back. My shoes were not happy, yellow clay everywhere.
And the shore pass is 24H, some officals consider that to be midnight ( even if you get the pass in the afternoon – so only a few hours validity ) , if gifts are given then it will actually be 24 hours.
Alexandria Library is wonderful but really not worth seeing, considering the hoops you have to go through.

Dirty. Some port security always ask to see captain to ask for cigarettes especially their head,even the gangway can’t stop them to enter the accommodation. Businessman brings a lot of souvenirs on board.
