I was surprised to see that this restaurant was located in a.. less than respectable street, but I won’t judge. It’s just slightly inconvenient to walk my way to what is considered to be a fine-dining experience, dressed to the nines while simultaneously hoping I don’t get catcalled or kidnapped (and given that I’m writing this review in a positive light, thankfully neither of those had happened.
I was ridiculously impressed upon entering the restaurant, however. Spectacular decor, honestly. It’s just so chic and gives a statement without being too much. The stairs are quite long and winding, so that’s not great for elderly, injured, or wheelchair users. Yikes. But it’s a fun way to get up the stairs. It was out of theme, however, that pretty much the only view I had of the lower restaurant was a bunch of cardboard boxes. Gee. Way to ruin what could’ve been a picturesque moment.😭💔 But alas, I mustn’t complain.
I had come here with my mother; and we were promptly seated without even having made reservations. This would probably have been different during holidays though, so if you’re planning to go, take that into account.
It seems to also be a family experience, as we were pretty much surrounded by families with younger children, but all were quite behaved and so the atmosphere was warm and lively. Also unexpected, but still nice.
There was nothing remarkable about the service nor was there anything wrong with it.
We had ordered a Chicken Caesar salad, pepperoni pizza, and sirloin steak. Also ordered some drinks – one of them was a mango smoothie, I think, and the other was an Oasis cocktail (I don’t think it actually has alcohol)
Chicken caesar salad: Good. Not amazing, not terrible, just good.
Pepperoni pizza: as to be expected for an Italian restaurant, this was undeniably the best dish. The pepperoni slices were crisp and the cheese was all stretchy and would just melt in your mouth.
Sirloin steak: I had my dish served with a delightful mushroom sauce, steamed veggies and french fries. The sauce actually tasted better on its own than it did on the steak. I would like to note that I had ordered it to be medium-well, but it was more on the medium-rare side. So that was annoying. Not to mention the steak did not have any special flavor and was relatively hard to chew. The restaurant clearly doesn’t get the meat specifically ordered.. not really worth being called a fine-dining dish. However, I was quite fulfilled and satisfied with the meal, but that part was just.. really annoying.
Drinks: I didn’t try the other drink, but my oasis tasted pretty great. I just felt as if it had a strong chemical or alcoholic taste? I’ve never drank alcohol nor do I wish to, so to this day I am unsure of whether that actually was alcohol, but it certainly made an impression – not sure whether that’s a good or bad thing.
Quality of food overall: Good. Not remarkable nor terrible. Just good.
The ladies washroom was well-equipped, although it was small and only one tap worked. Not sure how often it is cleaned, as I didn’t enter the toilet cubicles, but I assume it’s cleaned regularly.
Sedra has always been exceptional, but today; I was upset to notice the potato cubes were old and not fresh; when we told the waiter; he insisted its fresh although clearly the taste is that of old stale fries and not fresh ones, then after refusing to eat it, he took the plate and brought it back with some fresh ones on the old ones. It was really dissapointing seeing this happening at Sedra. Also, the orange juice has lots of seeds and pulp making it unenjoyable and I could not finish it.
Pros: We ordered Egyptian breakfast and after serving it, they told us they have no baladi/shami bread, which was confusing since we ordered Egyptian breakfast, but when we told them we could not eat it with toast, they baked fresh ones with the pizza dough they had available. Which meant they were keen to please their customers. Thanks for the fresh bread.
Dining at Sedra is always an exceptional experience! From the atmosphere to the attentive and friendly staff, everything is top-notch. The food was truly the highlight—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The most important and critical point is their strict rule against smoking, God bless them for that.
Sedra is a truly classy and elegant restaurant that combines a refined atmosphere with outstanding food. The staff are exceptionally professional, welcoming, and attentive — they make the whole experience smooth and enjoyable.
The food is absolutely delicious — every dish is full of flavor and beautifully presented. What makes Sedra even more special is its wide variety of mouthwatering desserts, perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.
Overall, Sedra offers the perfect mix of sophistication, great taste, and warm hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a memorable dining experience in Egypt!
