Very Poor Organization and Patient Care

I had a very disappointing experience at Shifa Hospital.
We waited over 1.5 hours at the admission desk with no apology and no one informed us about the delay. There is zero respect for patients’ time.
The attitude of the porter/reception staff was extremely rude and unprofessional.
The worst part was after the surgery. The operating room nurses refused to transfer ,the patient to her room after she woke up, claiming “no empty trolley was available. We were left waiting for a long time in a very difficult and stressful situation!!!
Shifa Hospital clearly lacks basic organization, communication, and respect for patients. I do not recommend.
Finally .Dr. Sherine, the head of the operating rooms, came to apologize the next day but she was not receptive to our concerns at all !

    Terrible Giving birth experience
Last December I gave birth to my son at Al Shifa Hospital in New Cairo, and unfortunately it was one of the worst healthcare experiences I’ve ever had.

I arrived at the hospital in the afternoon after being instructed by my OB-GYN to go there because I was in labor. The assistant confirmed I needed to be admitted, yet I waited around an hour before a room was finally prepared.

From the moment I was admitted, the level of care was extremely disappointing.

    * There was no hot water in my room during the middle of winter. As a woman in labor, I desperately needed warm water to shower or even fill a hot water bottle to relieve my back pain. My husband even bought an electric kettle, but the hospital refused to allow it inside!!! telling us to repeatedly walk to the cafeteria to get hot water instead!!
    * Nursing care was almost nonexistent. During labor, very few nurses checked on me. Most of the monitoring was done only when my doctor or his assistant came.
    * My experience with the anesthesiologist was very upsetting. I was having strong induced contractions and was in severe pain while trying to stay still for the epidural. Instead of showing compassion, I was spoken to harshly and shouted at!!!
    * I was moved to another room because I was told it had working hot water, but it didn’t!! The hospital bed controls didn’t work, the bedside light was broken, and the room was clearly not properly maintained.

When it was finally time to deliver, things became even worse.

After I was taken to the operating room, I spent around 30 minutes in severe pain telling the staff that the epidural wasn’t working, but I felt ignored. I repeatedly asked for help while waiting for my doctor.

After my son was born, I was only allowed to hold him for a few minutes before he was taken away according to hospital policy.

Another very concerning issue was that there was no pediatrician available immediately after my baby was born because it was around 4:30 AM. That explanation was honestly shocking to hear in a hospital!!

While the nurses were cleaning me after delivery, I politely asked one of them to be gentle because I was in pain. Instead, she sarcastically replied: “Does anyone give birth at 4 in the morning!!?” That comment has stayed with me until today.

I was then left alone in the operating room for around half an hour before being transferred back to my room.

The lack of nursing care afterward was even more alarming.

From the time I returned to my room until around noon the next day, no nurse properly checked on me. I woke up to find urine leaking all over the bed and onto the floor because my catheter bag had completely filled up and overflowed. No one had monitored it.

When I finally tried to shower after giving birth, there was still NO HOT WATER !!!

I raised all these concerns with hospital management while I was admitted. I was told they would address the issues, but nothing changed during my stay.

We paid over EGP 60,000 for the hospital alone for a normal delivery!! (excluding my doctor’s fees), yet the level of care did not reflect the half cost at all. I did not receive the nursing support, attention, or basic facilities that anyone would reasonably expect for that amount.

The only beautiful part of the entire experience was meeting my son for the first time. That memory is priceless. Unfortunately, the hospital experience surrounding his birth added unnecessary stress and suffering to what should have been one of the happiest days of my life.

Sadly, this was not my last negative experience with Al Shifa Hospital

This hospital needs a (Hospital) nursing standards, communication, maintenance, and above all, compassion..
because mothers and newborns deserve far better than what I experienced.

I want to make it clear that this review is directed at the hospital’s management, facilities, and nursing care—not at Dr. Mamdouh thabet or his medical team.
I am genuinely grateful to Dr. Mamdouh and his team for their care and support throughout my delivery

Average overall experience, They still need to improve the check in and check out process, They didn’t inform us when a 2,5 yrs old got out from operation and the kid woke up from general anesthesia alone without parents being around which was really disappointing. Apart from that the place is pretty nice and personel were really good.

This review is focused exclusively on my experience with Dr. Mohamed El-Tokhy in the dental clinic,

My experience with the doctor has been great, I went for a quick checkup as I had pain in my gums, the doctor was able to identify the issue on the spot and promptly started working on it and later took his time and my feedback into consideration while performing the filling needed to get my issue/pain sorted,

Throughout the procedure he was very patient and understanding, and actually listening to what I have to say instead of rushing through things, which I truly appreciated, the nurses were very good too.

Overall I had a great and welcoming experience with Dr. Tokhy in the dental clinic, other parts of the hospital such as bathroom hygiene do leave A LOT to be desired however.

I recently had good experience at SHIFA Hospital where the entire process from admission to discharge was reasonably acceptable; we just experienced few issues on the operation day on Sunday 09th February 2025 but overall experience was OK.

Thanks Nada the Operation Coordinator who helped us professionally before and after the operation; she is so efficient and responsive.

The operations team ensured everything ran smoothly, delivering excellent care to the patient; thanks Dr Elias Arteen, Laila, Ali and Ahmed.

We attended to the hospital at 7 am while the admission process was efficient with staff who were both attentive and well-organized.

Thanks Ammar from the floor care team for his service to the patient.

The inpatient room was spacious, clean, well maintained and equipped.

Following the operation, the guest services officer visited the room to check if we had any concerns (the visit happened before experiencing below mentioned issues).

The hospital maintained high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Thanks to Ahmed Shabaan and his team. Ahmed was available all day long supervising the floor cleaning works.

The pharmacy team were so helpful; they arranged the approval and delivery of the medication within 10 minutes.

Thanks security guards who are available 24/7 and always helpful.

Thanks Riham at the emergency reception who helped us with a great smile upon visiting the hospital on Thursday 13th February.

The issues experienced on Sunday were:
    1) We called the kitchen to order additional soup for the patient at 3 pm as she couldn’t eat the lunch meal consisted of meat, rice, soup and rice pudding while departed the hospital at 7:30 pm without any attempts of delivering the soup.
    2) We requested additional blanket for the patient which received in hours and following many calls by us.
    3) The care service staff came to test the patient pressure while she was sleeping; when awake we asked them to come twice to check on her condition but no one reported to the room.
    4) We waited at the room long time while no one from the care service knew when the patient will be discharged until we urged them to check with the doctor.

I wrote a complaint at the Facebook messenger so within an hour Mr Ihab Abdel Khader called me to listen to my concerns as patient escort. Thanks

The hospital building accommodates some facilities like cafe shop, florists shop, gifts and chocolates shop.
