January 2025. Near these Roman ruins, a café called Teatro Eskendria was particularly delightful. Seeing our group of Asians enter, the owner immediately seated us at the best table in the entire café. Initially, she gave us an Arabic menu, and when we said we couldn’t understand it, she wasn’t impatient at all, but rather apologetic for not having given us an English menu. A quick glance revealed no price difference between the two menus. In such an environment, six drinks and three local desserts cost only 120 egp per person—I think we definitely made the right choice.
