I delivered my first baby in spring 2023 at Agial Hospital, surrounded by the loving support of Dr. Hanaa, my doula Shrouk, and my husband. I’m a midwife and knew I wanted a natural birth before I was pregnant. I live outside of Egypt and could have chosen to deliver in a number of places, but I chose Dr. Hanaa because I knew she would support my desire for a natural birth. She is one of the few doctors in Egypt (and the Middle East) that promotes natural birth and empowers couples to be active participants in the birth of their baby.
Dr. Hanaa provided excellent care during pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. Her calm, strong, and motherly presence helpped me find the strength during the most difficult part of labor and birth. Dr. Hanaa suggested labor positions that helped facilitate the birth of my baby. Thanks to Dr. Hanaa’s experience and coaching, she had me breath my baby out and I had only a minor tear.
My doula Shrouk was also a strong and comforting presence. I still remember the way she held me and encouraged me in the moments of greatest pain. I’m so glad she was with me!
I’m very grateful my husband was by my side through the entire process. Some hospitals don’t allow the husband to be there, but this was a non-negotiable for us.
My baby was placed skin-to-skin and was not taken away to another room for observation. Our pediatrician, Dr. Reham, was amazing and very supportive of our birth plan (delayed cord clamping, skin-to-skin, in-room newborn exam).
I was nervous to give birth within a hospital system that is very medicalized, but having Dr. Hanaa as my provider and knowing that she would advocate for my birth plan eased my fears. I’m very thankful that I had a smooth birth, surrounded by an incredible team.

Mum’s haven is heaven. The teamwork there is wonderful, you really can feel that the staff working there are enjoying their work and happy always to assist.
Compared to other experiences in other countries (which were great), this was far superior.
Dr. Hanaa is following the most advanced methods to make it an experience rather than just a process, keeping in mind the comfort of my wife and making us choose every single details as we prefer. I have seen a genuine care even after birth.
In addition, we went with the “Doula” option which was Nada, she gave us a lecture with all the steps and what to expect, she was very supportive before, during and after birth.
All the team was very approachable and caring.
My wife is not Egyptian and she was worried because of lots of feedback that she saw online regarding giving birth in Egypt submitted by foreigners however from day 1 till after birth she was very confident and contented with Dr. Hanaa and her team.
I was allowed to attend the operation and personally I enjoyed being part of it.
