USD 500 disappeared from our locked room — hotel investigated itself and found nothing
We stayed two nights, 14-16 September 2026, room 515. In fairness: the location is convenient for the pyramids, the room was fine and the staff were friendly. Until the last morning we had no complaints at all.
On checkout morning, USD 500 in cash disappeared from my backpack inside the room. The timeline is precise:
– Around 09:00 I counted the cash in the room. It was there, pushed deep inside the backpack.
– We went down to breakfast and locked the door. The hotel uses traditional keys, not card locks, and I had the key with me the entire time.
– We returned around 09:30, took our bags, checked out and got into a taxi at 09:38.
– The backpack never left my hands after that. I recounted the money at the airport before our flight and USD 500 was gone.
Those 30 minutes at breakfast are the only window when the room was unattended, behind a locked door.
I wrote to the management. To their credit they replied quickly and politely, apologised, and said they would investigate and check camera footage. Their follow-up stated that they had questioned the staff and that management had confirmed nobody entered the room during breakfast. No footage was mentioned again. That was the end of it.
I am not accusing any individual and I never asked for compensation. I am stating what happened and what the hotel’s own investigation concluded. Draw your own conclusions.
If you stay here: do not leave cash in the room, not even buried in your luggage. Deposit it at reception against a written receipt, or carry it with you. Count it before you leave the room and after you come back.
