Sixt Rent a Car | Cairo City

I rented a car, and upon pickup, the Sixt employee and I walked around the vehicle together to record any existing damage. However, we did not inspect the undercarriage. Everything appeared fine, and the check-in process went smoothly. I did not purchase full insurance coverage since I have separate coverage through my credit card provider.

Upon returning the car, the Sixt team inspected the undercarriage—an area that had not been checked during pickup—and claimed there was damage, specifically a loose piece of plastic. I explained that I had not hit the car and that it was unfair to hold me responsible for damage in an area that was never inspected initially. It seems possible that this damage existed from a previous rental and was overlooked.

The staff asked me to wait in their office for further details, but after 40 minutes, they told me to leave and said they would follow up later, which nearly caused me to miss my flight. Later, the manager contacted me, claiming that a plastic screw had been broken and charging me $200, which was deducted from my card.

While I did not escalate the situation at the time because I have separate insurance coverage, this experience felt highly unfair. In my view, this was an attempt to pass on pre-existing damage to an unsuspecting customer. I would strongly advise others to be cautious when renting from this company—or at least this specific branch—when renting in Egypt. I will be posting the same review elsewhere to help others looking for a rental option in Cairo and are unable to rely on separate insurance in such situations to cover such suspicious charges.

One of my best car rental experiences with Sixt and other companies was at this location, the office and pick up team, Ahmad Hamza and Ahmad Magdy, were beyond helpful and stayed in touch with me during my whole stay to make sure everything was going well. Great job!
